Carrie Marie Underwood is an American singer, songwriter, and actress from Muskogee, Oklahoma.  She rose to prominence winning the fourth season of American Idol in 2005, becoming arguably the show's most successful alumni, and one of the most successful artists in any existing genre. Before her career in music, Carrie had essentially given up on her dreams of being a singer and attended Northeastern State University, where she graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor's degree in mass communication. In 2004 she was also selected as the Miss NSU runner-up.  Carrie's debut 'Some Hearts' equated to mass success with instant classic's such as 'Jesus, Take the Wheel', and 'Before He Cheats'.  The album would be recognized as the fastest selling debut country album in Nielsen SoundScan history, the best-selling solo female debut in country music history and the bestselling country album of the last decade. Her work on the album earned her two Grammies, a feat which was matched by her second album, 'Carnival Ride'. Carrie's most recent releases, 2009's 'Play On' and 2015's 'Storyteller', sealed her in as the first country artist to ever have five studio albums consecutively hit one or two on the Billboard charts.
