Christopher Maurice Brown, professionally known as "Chris" Brown, is an American singer, songwriter, dancer and actor from Tappahannock,Virginia, US. Brown grew up musically involved in his church, and competed in local talent shows from an early age.
He was discovered by a production team at his father's gas station by the age of 13, and after vocal training was brought to New York to audition for Tina Davis of Def Jam Recordings. Soon after, Davis lost her job with Def Jam but continued working with Brown, promoting his 'portfolio' to labels such as Warner Bros. Records, J-Records, and Jive Records, with Brown signing a deal with the latter due to its success with young artists at the time such as Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake. Anyone who had associated with Brown thus far noted that working with him was something special and something they wanted to be a part of, so it was no surprise in 2004 when Brown's self-titled debut peaked at number 2 on the US Billboard 200 and has been certified double platinum. Additionally with the success of his first Hot 100 single 'Run It!', Brown's second album, 'Exclusive', fostered three more Hot 100 hits: 'Kiss Kiss', 'With You', and 'Forever'.
Brown has collaborated with the likes of Bow Wow, Lil Mama, T-Pain, and Jordin Sparks, and also has enjoyed a quiet acting career.
