Cynthia Ann Stephanie "Cyndi" Lauper is an American singer-songwriter, actress, and LGBT activist known widely for her 1983 single 'Girls Just Want to Have Fun'.  Lauper's debut album 'She's So Unusual' became the first female solo debut to hold four top-five hits on the US Hot 100, including 'Time After Time', 'She Bop', and 'All Through the Night'.  This feat earned her the Best New Artist award at the 1985 Grammy Awards. Her career would continue steadily; She worked on the soundtrack for the classic film 'The Goonies' and put out a second album 'True Colors' in 1986 that included a number-one eponymous single and 'Change of Heart, which peaked at number 3 on the charts.
Since the 80's, Lauper has kept a very busy and fruitful career in music and elsewhere, releasing 9 studio albums and composing the score for the award-winning Broadway musical 'Kinky Boots', for which she became the first woman to win a Tony Award for Best Original Score single-handedly.  Lauper has won plenty of awards from several different institutions such as the Grammy's, Emmy's, VMA'S, AMA'S, and Billboard Awards, and has been inducted into both the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Her iconic music video for 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun' won the honorable first ever Best Female Video award at the 1984 VMA's and is recognized as one of the greatest music videos of the era.  Lauper has a celebrated history of activism and humanitarian work, particularly for rights for the LGBT community in the US.
