A prolific track in a young Elvis Presley's career, 'Jailhouse Rock' is a widely known classic that introduced  the bare-bones rock n' roll formula that was definitive of it's era. 'Jailhouse Rock' opens with a raspy, wailing Elvis over a consistent bump of drum and chord that builds into a fetching rhythm.  The song was published in the fall of 1957 to coincide with Elvis' third motion picture role in the film of the same title. On initial release the track was 1# on the US charts for seven weeks, and months later was 1# in the UK for 3 weeks during early 1958, being the first record to enter the UK charts at number 1. Presley's edition of the song is number 67 on Rolling Stone's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time and was named one of The Rock And Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll.  (Song Bios Copyright © 2016 J♯)
