Stefani Joanne Angelica Germanotta, known professionally as Lady Gaga, is an American singer-songwriter and actress from Manhattan, New York. Gaga had her roots in theater, appearing in plays during high school and attending New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. Her true passion would reveal to be music, dropping out of Tisch to join a rock band and almost signing to Def Jam Recordings before beginning work as a songwriter for Sony/ATV Music Publishing. In October 2015 Gaga appeared as a major character in the hit horror-themed television show American Horror Story, for which she won a Golden Globe award.
