     'Twist and Shout' is a song written in 1961 by Phil Medley and Bert Russel. The song has been covered by many large acts such as The Who and The Beatles since its first appearance as a single for the Top Notes.   The Beatles version was released in 1963 as a single on their debut album, 'Please Please Me', and reached number 2 in the US, only being out beat by another Beatle's record at the time, 'Can't Buy Me Love'.   The song was saved for last during The Beatles 13-hour recording session of 'Please Please Me' due to its high stress on an under the weather John Lennon's lead vocals, who later said his voice didn't feel the same for a while afterwards.  'Twist and Shout' has been certified Platinum in the US, selling over a million units.
